Day 10 walking. Some days you just have to put one foot in front of the other. 1 May

Ventosa 1 May

Today we walked from Logroño to Ventosa, about 22km, arriving here 5 minutes before the Albergue opened for business at 1pm. So we joined the small queue waiting to check in. Wow, what a nice place, spacious, 8 beds to a room and good facilities..

But for some reason today seemed hard. Wasn't particularly difficult walking, nor was the weather bad. It was overcast, so cool, but not raining nor windy.  Perfect weather for walking really, but my pack felt heavy, and seems to drag me down and my legs ached. I was really pleased to get here!!!!

Leapfrog is a word that springs to mind today. We met people early in our trip, and don't expect to see them again. Most move on faster than us, usually because they are on tight schedules, but for the past 2 days we have reacquainted with several people that we met in the first few days - always a good feeling.

Today we also met a person at the hostel who is doing the camino with his 6 year old son, but pulling him in a cart. Just amazing! There are so many ups and downs. The path winds through the mountains for goodness sake. Unbelievable.

Just when I start to feel good about our achievements, there are other stories of strength, courage and sacrifice. Very humbling experience.

Tonight after we returned from dinner we noticed a man curled up in a corner on the floor in the common room. He had walked 46km and this is the only Albergue in this town. I think there were others turned away earlier.

Notes to self.
  • 22 km.  Logroño to Ventosa
  • Albergue in Ventosa is excellent. Warm, roomy, good facilities, very welcoming 10€ each. Private double room available.
