Day 34 walking. Pulpo for lunch. 25 May

What a beautiful day. This is the weather we expected. Well almost. I finally walked part of the day in a t-shirt.  Much of today's path was along ancient well worn paths. Quite mystical, it feels like we have stepped back in time.

And occasionally we would find ourselves walking past eucalypt stands. We could have been walking in the Sunshine Coast hinterland.

The hills just never cease. Today as we struggled up one long steep hill, I heard someone just a little further up the hill from us exclaim. 'Ay, ay, ay .' Knew exactly what she meant as we rounded the bend and saw the hill continue to rise to another bend, and more than likely another rise. Not my finest moment, due to an amount of vino consumed at lunch just a little earlier. My head was thumping as pure vino was being pumped through my veins. Certainly made the going tough.

But there are lots of people doing it tough! I am reluctant to speak too soon, we still have 2 days of walking, and that's a lot of steps. But so far, feet are fine, unlike others we have seen lately - one with feet taped and bandaged, wearing socks and thongs, and another who walks down slopes backwards or side step. Looks soooo painful.

Melide, which we passed through today is famous for pulpo. So we had to stop and give it another go. This one was much better - more tender and very tasty.

When we stopped earlier today for breakfast, there was a large coach parked nearby, and apparently, a bunch of day walkers, got off and started their day. We had walked 8 km to this point for breakfast. Have to keep reminding ourselves that everyone walks their own camino.

Heard about another group of Australian women walking part of the camino, staying in good hotels, having all their gear transported. They have late starts, and look quite a sight on the path in all their makeup. Would love to meet up with them sometime. Those who have met them say they are having a ball.

Thought we might have a shorter day, but nothing looked really appealing so we continued on to Ribadiso.

Notes to self.
  • 27km  Palas de Rei to Ribadiso
  • Ribadiso Albergue Xacobeo  6€ each
  • Beautiful spot on the river. Great in the sun
  • Shower block separate building out the back. Would be cold in winter.
  • 10 second push button showers are NOT my favourite.
