On to Finisterre. Day 3. Lex reads maps upside down. 31 May

I know this is hard to believe, being a Scout and all, but Lex told me today would be an easy, downhill most of the way. Mmmmm. Yes there were a few downhill slopes, but for over 4 hours we climbed up and across mountain tops, where only power lines, huge wind turbines, and pilgrims can be found!

Not complaining, really. It was overcast, but not raining, and it was a really lovely walk. So many wildflowers too. Much easier than yesterday's walk.

I have my 'mojo' back!
We stopped for a hot chocolate after about 5 km, tempted by a sign which said, 'No bars or tiendas for 15km'. Enterprising, but she was right. So we bought cake to take with us for a picnic.

We didn't really start the downhill run until 3.5 kms from our destination of Cee. From the top of the mountains we could just see the sea at Cee! I thought we would be walking along a coastal plain for some of the day, but the mountains go right down to the sea.

We have checked into an Albergue. Have a private room, with fresh fluffy towels, and soft sheets. Woohoo. You have to do without things to really appreciate them! Feeling rather chuffed - I managed to negotiate getting our washing done (washed and dried), without having to wait around for it ourselves. Yeah. Clean clothes again too. Simple things in life - but so far I haven't bought any washing powder either. Don't want to carry it. So I thought it might be tricky, but haven't had any problems. Nice.

Cee is a fishing village, so there are lots of boats for Lex to look at. We walked down onto the sand, and Lex negotiated the mud flat at low tide to wet his toes in the Atlantic Ocean. I didn't feel the need.

Notes to self
  • 18km Olveiroa to Cee
  • Albergue Moreir 12.50€ each for a bunk in a room for 4. Or 30€ for two in a private room with 2 beds. Not bunks. Good facilities. I put clothes into the machine. He did the rest for us. Washing 3€. Drying 3€. Wifi available, but it looks like you only get 2 hour allocation. That sucks. Need to post this blog entry tomorrow
  • Managed to make reservation in recommended hostel in Santiago for our return after Finisterre, via Skype using Skype phone credit. Nice. San Martin Pinario. Very popular and frequently booked out. We are lucky. Need to ask for pilgrim room, or pilgrim rates. Much better. 40€ per night, and includes buffet breakfast.
